I’m having trouble making my house payments and heard about going through a credit counseling agency to…?

restructure my mortgage to drop my payments. Does anyone have any experiance doing this? Is it a good liget thing to do?

If you want to restructure your mortgage, why go through a credit counseling agency? Work directly with your lender. It’s in their interest to see that you don’t fall behind or default. Besides, a lot of the credit counseling agencies that you see on TV are bogus.

Be cautious here, the vast majority of credit counseling agencies charge for their service, and there is really nothing they can do that you cannot do yourself.

99% of companies offering loan modification services are scams.

A credit counselor does not step between you and the lender you have your mortgage through. There job is to work with you and get up a budget so you can make all your payments on time. You can do that yourself with some self discipline
