Can people download real copies of windows 7?
I have been in a debate with a friend who thinks he has a liget downloaded copy of windows 7. Is it possible for anyone to get a real copy right now on the internet??
Ok lets clear this up. I know there is windows 7 out there. My real question should have been can someone get one that is not a trial?
Microsoft released Beta and RC versions of Windows 7 to the public, so he might have one of those copies. They will eventually expire and he will eventually have to revert to his previous OS next year or get Windows 7.

Uhmm, if somebody put up a torrent of it then it is possible…you just need to find the torrent for the site and download it, just make sure its not a virus…

I have been using a totally legal copy of 7 for a few months now. Microsoft have stopped releasing the beta version & unless he knows how to bypass the trial feature he will only have 30 days use.

Beta and Release Candidate (RC) versions of Windows 7 were made available to the public for download, but are no longer available for download. The beta version expired on August 1st, and the RC will expire on June 1st, 2010. If your friend has the RC it is legit, but will expire.
Windows 7 RTM, the actual version, is available for download via an MSDN or Technet subscription.

Yes, there are (paying) subscribers to Microsoft services like Technet and MSDN who have already been able to download it. It’s also been available to many students via the MSDNAA program. And there are likely some illegitimate copies drifting around out there too, but they can’t be legally activated within the 30-day limit.
The OS won’t be widespread publicly available until October 22.
