I found a product called smoked paprika in the store, is that the same as Hungarian Paprika?
It was made by McCormicks, wondering if that is their version of hungarian paprika so can use for a recipe as I cannot find anywhere else and not a fan of ordering of the internet if can help it.
No, they are not the same. Smoked paprika is made from the same peppers that regular paprika is but they are smoked before drying & grinding. Hungarian paprika is from Hungary. It can be regular (or sweet), hot or smoked. It does taste a little different from the regular stuff sold in the grocery store (i.e. McCormick) & you can substitute the regular. The Hungarian type usually comes in a rectangular box & is sold on the shelves under the national/store brands, with the Old Bay, etc. The regular is in a red box.

I don’t think so. I use Hungarian paprika and it is a "sweet" paprika, not a smoky one…

If it doesn’t say I would probably from California. The Hungarian or Spanish are usually proud of were they are from and will say so on the jar.

Smoked Paprika has a smokier taste. Hungarian or regular Paprika has more of a sweet taste. Smoked is really good for BBQ rubs or for smokey dishes and sweet is good for dishes like sauted veggies for a stir fry or philly steak sandwich
