On Orbitz and Expedia, is it cheaper to book flights and hotels together than booking them separately?

I am planning a trip to the US. If I decide to book both my hotels and flights on Orbitz or expedia, is it cheaper to do it together, as compared to booking flights and then booking hotels?

In my experience, it is usually cheaper, definitely.
