Driving an uninsured NH registered motorcycle in other states?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

In NH, motorcycle insurance is not compulsory. Would it be legal to drive it in another state?

as soon as you cross that state line you have to abide by there rules…………….and no ins. what so ever, I dont think so……….consider the helmet law, from state to state…………

Patient lives in NH but dies in a MA hospital. How long does MA hospital have to submit bills to estate?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

In which jurisdiction does the statue of limitations fall…NH or MA? If we close the estate of the deceased, can the hospital come to us at any time after it’s closed to request payment for medical bills?

In NH the minimum limitation period for claims against an estate is six (6) months. You need to petition the probate court to open the estate, publish notices in the newspaper, take out a bond, submit an inventory and await claims. If six months pass after the probate court has appointed the fiduciary or administrator and no claim is filed, no suit is brought, no appearance by the hospital is filed in probate court and you complete a final account, have it approved by the probate judge, then any claim by the hospital is forever barred. NH has jurisdiction over the estate, since that is the patient’s residence. The matter is more complicated if the MA hospital files suit in Middlesex, Essex or Suffolk county, for instance, without going through the patient’s probate estate. Then you would be well advised to talk with a lawyer, but the lawyer may well support the theory that the claim is barred due to the hospital’s failure to file a claim against the patient’s estate in the probate court of the county of that patient’s residence.

Lives in NH work in MA, was self employed for 3 months, do I still put that income in for MA state return?

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I made $22000 in self employment, my office was located at home in NH. Do I still report that income on my MA tax return? I’m doing my taxes online with turbotax and it automatically enter the income in my MA, is ok if I delete it?

You most likely need to do an apportionment schedule of some sort for MA since you are a non-resident. For individuals, the formula is usually something like – how much did you make in our state vs. how much did you make everywhere. Many states compute your tax as if 100% of your income was from their state and then multiplies by the ratio above. This is their way of getting your income into a higher tax bracket.

So, if TurboTax is indeed sourcing the self-employment income to MA, you need to change that. I am not sure if you can just delete it since it may delete it from your Federal and NH returns. Any tax software that allows for multiple state filings requires you to indicate where the income should be sourced. This may just be a case where it was accidently coded as MA. Check that to be sure. If it is already correctly sourced to NH, you may need to call TurboTax support to find the work around.

How long will a FBI background check for a firearm in NH take?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I live in NH, and I’m 16, I just had my mom who is from Poland (but is a citizen) buy me a shotgun, and this was all in VT. They called it in to the FBI and they didn’t tell me how long it might take for it to come back. I would like to know approx how long it will take. And will like traffic violations, and law suits from car accidents hinder the check?

Not sure who "called it in to the FBI" or why they would do that. There is no background check for owning a shotgun in NH, or many other states. It’s just a dangerous tool like a chainsaw or a mchete.

You don’t need a license or permit to buy or own a gun in NH, unless it is a handgun being purchased from somene who doesn’t know you. You don’t need to register any guns in NH. You don’t need a license to carry a shotgun in NH. A licensed firearms dealer can make a simple phone call to find out instantaneously if you’re registered as a "prohibited person" who is not allowed to buy a firearm.

In any case, a "criminal background check" (for a license to carry a concealed handgun) is only looking for felonies and crimes of "domestic violence", not traffic tickets (not including traffic felony arrest, such as DWI causing death).

Is it legal to own an african serval in Massachusetts or NH?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I want one of those cats so bad and I live in Massachusetts…but they seem to not let you have anything here…NH is usually pretty lenient with stuff like that though. Anyone got any facts on that? These cats seem fine as a domestic animal as many people have them in other places and they seem pretty happy as a house pet.

I would either talk to your vet or check out this vet advice line you can look on the website or call the #

Where are good beaches in NH to get married at?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I’d like to get married on a beach. I want to get married in NH, my bf grew up there. but we’re not sure of a good beach there to do that. our main conscern is the beach being very popular and tons of people being around. do you know of any beach thats just as beautiful as Hampton or NewCastle? if we have to we could do it there, but we’d really like a quiet wedding.
can you help?

I’m assuming you mean an ocean beach. New Hampshire doesn’t have many miles of coastline. There are a few small beaches in Rye but I don’t know how accessible they are. Hampton Beach is going to be crowed from Memorial Day till labor day. Right next to New Hampshire in southern Maine there are many secluded beaches that don’t draw big crowds. Look around Kennebunkport, Biddeford Pool and Ogunquit. You can get married on a nice beach in Maine then drive less than an hour to honeymoon in New Hampshire.

Can a subcontracted musician have a glass of wine before, during or after work in a NH resort hotel?

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

I am a pianist who’s worked at a resort hotel in Whitefield, NH for 4 1/2 mths. I have purchased wine occasionally during the course of my working evening or a guest has bought me a drink. Last night a friend tried to buy me a glass of wine & I was told I could not have it before, during or after work on the premises as this was State law. I was told this by a new manager at the hotel. Other mgrs. at this same hotel have allowed it and never even made mention of it. None of the bartenders nor the concierge ever heard of such a law. IS this a State law in New Hampshire?

I need contact information for deaf interpreters around portsmouth NH their may be a job opening?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

At my school, Portsmouth High School NH, they will be removing the deaf program. This of course means our deaf students will have to leave. I hope to avoid this by locating local interpreters and informing my school. Locating such an interpreter is a very urgent matter because our school must allow this to pass after a certain date. Even if their is no one personally willing to take this job, your help in regards of accumulating interpreter meeting places would be greatly appreciated.

i will let you know, your school is not advertising for interpreters, so terps dont know portsmouth high school needs interpreters! the school needs to post job opening for terps on online. i will let my interpreters friends know about this problem! good luck
