Why does Gellert Grindelwald have a Hungarian first name?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I quite understand why JK gave him a German surname but why a Hungarian first name? What do you think?

She probably isn’t an expert on where names come from and just thought that it sounded appropriate.

Would Russians charge in on families searching for spies in the Hungarian Revolution?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I am writing a story from the eyes of a thirteen year old girl in the Hungarian Revolution, I was wondering if anybody knew the answer to the above question please? Thank you x

yes they would. first they would take videos and photographs of the demonstrations and then find the main instigators, and then they would round them up. it wouldn’t matter if they were at work or at home and the russians didn’t care if it was 1 in the morning or 4 in the afternoon. the kgb had a big presence in hungary before, during and after the "revolution". needless to say, once the revolution was put down, the kgb were big on finding the ones that started it.

Does anyone know what traditional boys hungarian costume looks like?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Does anyone know what a traditional hungarian costume for boys/men wear?

Hungarian folk costume has a lot of regional variation — an experienced folklorist can tell what village a woman’s dress comes from. Men’s fashion is somewhat more conservative, and tends to be a variation on one of two basic styles:

1) "Nadrág" or "harisnya": pants or joined hose (the latter generally of wool, with corded decoration), white "peasant"-style shirt, and a vest or sleeved waistcoat (with variations on its decoration based on region, the season, and the age and social status of the wearer); or

2) "Gatya": very baggy pleated pants, generally white or blue linen, a baggy (but often rather short) shirt of the same fabric, and a vest. Some regions also add an apron (long, embroidered, with fringe at the bottom).

Both styles generally also include boots and a hat. The latter is usually something like a bowler hat: a short mostly-cylindrical hat with a brim. The "gatya" style is associated with the Great Plain and the cowboys and horsemen who made their living there, and can be completed with a wider-brimmed hat (somewhat like a sombrero) and a wool overcoat called the "szűr".

What to expect from a hungarian man?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I am dating a hungarian man. Very well educated and successful. I am just getting to know him. What should I expect and avoid?

A lot of Hungarian men take a sort of casual attitude toward fidelity in marriage. Just so you know. Before marriage, I don’t know.

He would probably be very delighted if you ordered some Tokaji wine or Unicum liqueur or Pick sausage for him. Most Hungarian men love this stuff and you can probably order it over the internet. Also he’d probably be impressed with you if you learned a few Hungarian words for him. Go to http://www.letslearnhungarian.net/ to download free audio podcasts.

what is the latin or hungarian translation for follow your dreams?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I’ve seen similiar versions, but I need the CORRECT one. please only answer if you are fluent in latin and KNOW what you are talking about. I’d like this in hungarian as well if anyone knows it! Thanks!!

Hiya soccerstar,

the Latin translation could be "sequere somnia tua", "sequere tua somnia" or even "tua sequere somnia". The three of them mean exactly the same thing. As you can see, word order in Latin can be different from English.

As far as the Hungarian translation is concerned, it would be:
"Kövesd az álmaidat."

I hope it helps.
Have a nice day.

do i need visa to the european union if im hungarian resident?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Hi,my name is Alex,I like to know if i need visa to travel to the european union countries if im only hungarian resident, non eu-citizen. thank you for your help.

Depends on your citizenship, exact residency status, etc. You need to talk to someone who can answer with authority. You don’t want to make it to another country and find Hungary has revoked your residency status because you left improperly or won’t let you back in because you lack proper documents. If you were a hungarian citizen you would be fine.

What happened in 1944, at the time of the Hungarian deportation an offer was made by the Gestapo again?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

that would have saved all the lives of the Hungarian Jews?

What was the response from the Zionist leaders to this offer?
Shay:

Sometimes silance is the most eloquent reply.
*Silence*

You can do a search for Joel Brand.

Zion sent 1 million Hungarian Jews to their deaths.

So much for zion being friends with the Jewish people.
