What should newlyweds know before having sex in a hotel?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Me and my fiancé are planning to spend our honeymoon in a tropical resort. I am really excited about it. However, i am too embarrassed to ask my friends or mother if there is anything i should know before having sex in a hotel. I’ve heard about fluids comming out during sex. So would it be okay for us to do it on a hotel bed?

They expect you to have sex in the rooms, the sheets are washed with bleach, and it wouldn’t be the first time the maid had take sexed sheets off from the bed. I recommend you take off the bedspread and throw it in the corner. A lot of times, they only wash the blankets and sheets, not the bedspread. Congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon and life together.

What is a cheap but safe hotel to stay by all the night clubs in Vancouver, BC?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Me and my friends are planning a trip to Vancouver BC to go clubbing and barhopping, and are looking to hopefully stay in a cheap, but safe and legit hotel that is walking distance to the night clubs and bars that are on Granville st. At least that’s where it seems like all the clubs are. Also, any club or bar recommendations would be help full. Thanks!

How weird is to pay a hotel room in cash?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

My company is going to send me on a business trip. There is some inconvenience with the company’s credit card so they will give me like a thousand dollars cash to pay for the entire week I am planning to stay at the Crown Plaza. Will the hotel staff become suspicious of me? How common is to pay hotel rooms in cash nowadays?

People pay for cash all of the time for hotel rooms these days. However, at most hotels it becomes a big production. You may need a deposit etc. And lets just say alot of people who pay cash are "watched" by a certain "group" if you know what i mean. Alot of people that pay cash where i work are dealers, pimps, prostitutes, etc. If you want to avoid alot of trouble as far as deposits and such, take one of your own credit cards to put down for incidentals. Or talk to your company and have them reimburse you if you pay on your credit card. Just some thoughts

How can you get a lower hotel rate in person?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I don’t like the online sites like Priceline because they don’t tell you what hotel you are getting until you’ve already agreed to purchase it. Is there anything you can say to the hotel clerk to get a lower rate? I’m interested in Hilton.

Show up after their reserved check in time. Any rooms available will probably go empty, these are the ones you can get a deal on. Do like shatner does on the commercial, tell the clerk you are there last minute, do they have any special room rates. Be sure to check their normal rates(rack rates) are so you know if you are getting a deal. If it’s not low enough, hesitate. Be sure to bring along your AAA card, and when they get down to a rate you like, whip it out for a possible extra bit off. Also be sure to check the hotel you plan to visit to see if they have rooms available that day, if they are pretty booked (since you mentioned hilton) they may not let even a few empty rooms go cheaply.

You know the hiltons sold their hotel yeah?

What is the best Hotel on Catalina Island to stay at?

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

I am planning a surprise for my wife when I get back from deployment, I am curious about which is the best hotel on the island.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Why is it important for the hotel’s maintenance department to keep the blades?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Shell 10
(Points: 4.0)
Why is it important for the hotel’s maintenance department to keep the blades of the hotel’s lawn mowers sharp?

1. The engines of the lawn mowers will run smoother if the blades are kept sharp.
2. The blades are less likely to warp or crack if they are kept sharp.
3. If the blades are sharp, the grass is cut, not ripped, and is therefore less susceptible to disease.
4. If the blades are sharp, the lawn mowers will use less gas.

I think it would be 3, maybe 4.

.. I’m not sure about the "disease" part, but sharp blades mean the grass is cut properly. Also if they’re sharp it will use less gas because some spots won’t need to be mowed repeatedly.

How would I write a cover letter to a hotel resort with no experience in hotel industry?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I really want to get into the hotel industry. The place I want to work is my most desire. However, I don’t have experience in hotel management. To me, to get experience you have to start some where. So, how would I sell myself to the employer to tell them I have the talent they are seeking?
They don’t require experience as they provide training programs
I’ve had a change of heart in careers. I was previously into Property Management.

You need to reflect transferable skills in the cover letter. So:

Look over the job description of the job you want at the place you want to work. Pick out the skills you possess that they are seeking and note them in your resume.

You will want to state simply that you are looking for a career change and that you like _______________that the hotel industry offers (make this sincere – you like the people interaction if your present job offers none, whatever the case may be.)

Then, in your next paragraph, you should state your skills – and especially note the things they are looking for and a few that you have that might be of value. This would look something like this:

My talents include but are not limited to:_____________________. List four or five of them. Make them meaty – you want to lure them to your resume and then to the call to schedule an interview.

Good luck

How do I get a decent hotel reservation for mardi gras in new orleans?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I thought I was starting early enough by looking now, but all the french quarter hotels are either booked or you have to stay there for a certain number of nights. Is there a secret to getting into one of these places? Or should I just go to a travel agent and see what they can come up with? Also, if I do end up in a hotel that isn’t walking distance, is it realistic to think that I will be able to take a cab to bourbon street and then back home?

During all festival weekends I think most hotels require a minimum 3 night stay (some 2) and rates go up. I would think you can still find some good hotels or B&Bs in the quarter although the ones right at canal might be harder. I would not recommend catching a cab though. Most of the streets are blocked off and its very hard to get around in a car during peak parade hours. You will walk faster than a car could go. I come to town often and always stay at Maison DuBois Bed and breakfast. Its walkable to the parades on Canal, 1 block from bourban but on the other end of the quarter so gives you a chance to relax and get away from the crowds too. They have a wonderful saltwater pool/spa and tropical courtyard too which is great. Nice large suites too. Here is their site. Good luck.

How do I look for a hotel to book in advance on a long drive?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I am driving to Texas and it will take 1 day and 7 hours without stopping. But I would like to stop at a hotel along the way. Is there any way I can look for and compare hotels on my route?

Try this: http://www.etravelogue.com/

There are others that you can use also, just google road trip planner.

We recently drove from Texas to Wisconsin and back and this site was helpful.

How do online travel companies manage hotel bookings/availability?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Most people are familiar with online travel sites that allow you to book hotels directly (often at cheaper rates than through a travel agent, or even if you contact the hotels directly).

So how do the online travel websites manage their accomodation stock? For example, are they somehow connected in to each hotels room management system and thereby able to see whether rooms are available?

OR

Do the hotels offer up a block of rooms to each of the online travel sites for them to exclusively sell?

If someone works in the hotel industry, perhaps they might know.

Hi,

The hotel I work for deals with several different online companies, and we do indeed offer them each only a few rooms. We are also able to do what is known as ‘closing out’ which means that if we are starting to get full we can go onto each website and tell it not to sell anymore rooms for us. This can also be done with a specific type of room so say we are starting to get full on double bedded rooms we can ‘close out’ on those but continue to sell the websites allocation of twin bedded and single bedded rooms.

Hope that helps.
